Best Grandpa Ever
When we went home for Christmas, Grandpa took the kids for some more motorcycle rides at the church again. It's crazy to watch my little speed demon dare devil children hooting and hollering on the back of a motorcycle. I stood there and my heart skipped a beat when I considered them as teenagers and instead of Grandpa on the front, I was imagining some sort of punk teenage boy carting my children around. Oh, the imagination of a mother.
But reality is king, and we are actually the most lucky kids ever to have such a great dad and grandpa!
At this time in her life, Penelope is a bit less interested in speed or danger. She is happy to stand around trying on helmets and smiling for cameras.
We stand together, waving at the kids doing loops around us.
(This picture cracks me up, because Avery's hair is whipping into Corban's face)
Sometimes as a mom I focus on the sacrifices these kids make for each other-- more kids equals a mom spread out farther. Hungry baby cries while mom makes lunches and takes kids to school. Big kids have to wait to read books while mom takes care of baby's diapers and baths. Just a lot of trade offs. But sometimes I realize, and then revel in the truth that these kids are so lucky to have each other. Baby needs the big kids, the big kids need our baby. We are a family, and that is such a beautiful thing.
Sweet, sweet, messy little Penelope.
